The first global survey has begun, assessing the challenges to accessing healthcare for neuroendocrine tumor patients (NOT)

To make visible the challenges facing patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NOT) all over the world, The International Alliance for Neuroendocrine Tumors (INCA), together with their own 26 member organizations from 6 continent, including the Bulgarian one Association of Cancer Patients (APOZ), start the SCAN – an international survey of the opinion of NET patients and medical specialists from various fields..

SCAN aims to collect robust global data, as well as for Bulgaria, to answer key questions about how available and affordable diagnostic and therapeutic methods for NETs are in different countries around the world and how much it costs each patient, living with NO.

The research was translated into 14 the language, one of which is the Bulgarian one.

Under the motto We SCAN! We SCAN! INCA invites NET patients, their caregivers, specialist oncologists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists, nuclear medicine specialists, surgeons, hematologists, pulmonologists, radiotherapy, psychologists, as well as general practitioners (GP) and nurses, to share their opinion on the challenges of providing health care for these patients in our country as well.

The study will outline the situation in a comparative plan between individual countries and Georgian areas, which will allow the international organization and its members in individual countries to have serious arguments, supported by data, to demand improved care and equal access for all.

The survey is completely anonymous and does not register any personal data. It will last until the end of October 2019.

Its initial results will be released on November 10th, when is World Neuroendocrine Tumor Awareness Day – World NET Cancer Day. Data from SCAN will become part of publications in medical journals, conferences, will be presented in meetings with responsible persons from the Ministry of Health in order to inform about the situation with NET patients in Bulgaria and search for solutions to the challenges, which they encounter.
